Jennifer Lopez STRAIGHT TALK
Don't ask so many questions, says the Selena actress, now George Clooney's co-star in a new movie, Out of Sight. Be "like a sponge" -- you'll get answers.
ennifer Lopez, 27, takes pride in her ability to find meaning in small details. "You learn more by observing people than by asking questions." In Out of Sight -- her new movie, based on the Elmore Leonard novel -- she plays a federal marshal who falls for prison escapee George Clooney. For research, "I tagged along with these tough-guy cops." She smiles at her word choice: These "guys" were actually women.
Lopez didn't ask much. "I just observed -- like when a female cop is standing with a male cop, people talk to the male cop. So women find ways to demand respect. They don't let men one-up them in anything. They banter with them line for line. They shoot with them shot for shot."
To prepare for her charismatic portrayal of Selena in last year's biopic, Lopez moved in with the slain singer's family. After a few days, "they said, 'Why aren't you asking about Selena?' I told them I wanted to know what it was like to live there. It's much more interesting to see what people do or say, rather than what you pry out of them."
Crying with Selena's parents, husband and siblings as they watched home movies, Lopez took to heart what they learned the hard way: "You have to let people know now how you feel about them, because you never know what'll happen."
Lopez, a native New Yorker of Puerto Rican descent, says making Selena heightened her awareness of many things. "I'm always saying, 'Look at how beautiful it is today. Look at the sky! Smell the air!' '' Her loved ones roll their eyes, but she hopes they're observing her and getting this message: "You can't take life for granted."
LOPEZ SAYS
Test that dress:
As a presenter at this year's Oscars, Lopez almost tripped on stage in her gown. So before a big event, "test your dress by walking fast.''
On pricey cars:
Lopez wants to buy a silver convertible Porsche. "My manager says, 'Are you sure? You should test-drive it and see how it feels.' I know how it will feel. It will feel like I just wasted $80,000."
When a man comes on too strong:
"Give him the shut-down vibe, the I'm-not-interested vibe. You need to have a vibe that says: Go away."
The secret to salsa:
"You need a certain rhythm. Not everybody can find it. You almost have to have it in you." For the movie Blood & Wine, she taught the salsa to Jack Nicholson. "He did fine."
Jennifer Lopez makes People's Beautiful List
Don't hate them because they're beautiful. Hate them because they're the most beautiful.
People has unveiled its annual ode to aesthetics, aka its 100 Most Beautiful People list, and, in addition to usual suspects Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, Halle Berry and reigning Sexiest Man Alive Hugh Jackman, some of Hollywood's newest faces made the superficial cut.
The beautiful inside-and-out Christina Applegate scored the double issue's coveted cover for gracefully and publicly making it through her battle with breast cancer and subsequent double mastectomy, which she underplayed as a "roller coaster of emotions…"
"A part of you is gone," she said. "It's a decision that you made to save your life."
Meanwhile, the magazine didn't ignore the nation's Beltway beauties.
Turning heads and taking names. People's complete rundown of the 2009 100 Most Beautiful People in the World will be available in the magazine's 20th annual issue.
Alex O'Loughlin Talks Back Up Plan
We know. You're not used to seeing Moonlight's Alex O'Loughlin looking like a serial killer with OCD. (You prefer to remember him the way we do: either holding a "Hi Slezak!" sign at 2008's New York Comic Con or shirtless.) But it's only for a role. O'Loughlin guest stars on tonight's episode of Criminal Minds (CBS, 9 p.m. ET) as what fans of the series know as the Unsub, or unidentified subject. He plays a man who sends a video of one of his murders to the BAU team, hoping that they'll be able to end the bloody spree that he himself cannot stop. We phoned O'Loughlin for a quick chat about the part, his CBS drama pilot Three Rivers, and the romantic comedy he begins shooting next month with Jennifer Lopez, The Back-Up Plan.
Here is some of Alex' interview;
You're about to start filming the movie The Back-Up Plan with Jennifer Lopez. Tell us about that one.
It's a movie about a girl who is heading toward her 40th birthday, she hasn't met The One, she really wants a baby, and so she goes and gets artificially inseminated. Right after she does this, she bumps into this guy called Stan. I play Stan. She falls in love with him. He falls in love with her. She tells him about the pregnancy after they've fallen in love and he flips out. Then it's about him coming to terms with the fact that if he loves her, he loves all of her, and working out how he's gonna deal with it. It's very funny. It's very moving. It's a terrific little film.
You've met Jennifer already, obviously. How's the chemistry?
The chemistry is fine. I think we're gonna be pals. You know when you sit in a room with someone and you kinda can't talk to them, or you sit in a room and you're easy with someone -- we're easy together. So I think it's gonna work. I think we're gonna be really good onscreen together. Her husband is wonderful. I met Marc and the kids, and they're great. They're a really lovely unit.

Michaela Watkins and Alex O'Loughlin also star. Kate Angelo ("Will & Grace") wrote the screenplay, and Alan Poul ("Six Feet Under") is directing.
The movie will be CBS Films' first feature release and is due in theaters in January.

Jennifer Lopez Plays Bad Cop with Kids
While she may make the world smile with romantic comedies and dance tracks, Jennifer Lopez is all bad cop when it comes to raising kids.
RadarOnline.com caught up with Lopez pal Leah Remini at Saturday's celebration of the Natural Resource Defense Council in Los Angeles, where she tells us J Lo lays down the law with little ones.
"Jennifer puts her foot down. You should see [Lopez and Remini's daughter Sofia]" having an argument, it's hysterical."
Remini told us about a recent play date with Sofia and Lopez's one-year-old son Max.
"Max is starting to bite because he's just getting teeth and Jennifer will say 'Max, no biting,' and Sofia said 'You don't tell babies not to bite."
Lopez wasn't having it. She told little Sofia that Max can't bite or "he's going to hurt his sister!'"
Conversely, Remini is a total softie when it comes to Lopez's Max and twin sister Emme.
"[I] let them do whatever they want. When I go over there I take all her Tupperware out of her kitchen, get it all on the floor."
Babies amused by Tupperware? Looks like love really doesn't cost a thing.

Cheryl Cole Wants Jennifer Lopez's Butt
Cheryl Cole has revealed that she would trade in her impressive 32D bust-line for Jennifer Lopez's gravity-defying derriere.
The Girls Aloud singer - whose weight dramatically dropped after finding out about her husband Ashley Cole's infidelity last year - says that she wishes her "ridiculous" breasts were smaller and her small posterior much larger.
Cheryl tells The Sun: “I hate looking thin. I don’t want to be up and down like a lollipop lady."
“It’s not a good look. I’d love to have more junk in my trunk. Ideally a body like Jennifer Lopez
